A terrible swimming accident occurred on Lake Constance near Bregenz on Saturday afternoon. A man was traveling with his girlfriend and her two children on a rented motorboat when the disaster began.
It should have been a wonderful trip with the blended family when a 29-year-old man rented a motorboat in Lindau on Saturday afternoon.
Together with his 35-year-old girlfriend and her children (twelve and six years old), the man living in Germany took the boat to the beach area “Pipeline” between Lochau and Bregenz.
The young man then went into the water to swim, about ten to fifteen meters from the coast. At around 18:45, for reasons that are still unclear, he got into an emergency situation and was in danger of sinking.
Rescue attempts by the girlfriend and her children failed. Several people were alerted by cries for help and searched in vain for the drowning man in the water.
Despite quick rescue no chance
The Rescue and Fire Control Centre (RFL) was alerted by a witness on the shore. Water rescue divers were able to rescue the lifeless 29-year-old from the water at 18:55, exactly nine minutes after the alarm went off.
Resuscitation measures were immediately initiated. Resuscitation by the emergency physician continued until he was admitted to the Bregenz State Hospital, but was unsuccessful.
