Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has detained a container ship linked to Israel. Footage shows a commando abseiling from a military helicopter to the deck of the ship.
According to reports, the ship is the MCS Aries, which sails under the Portuguese flag but has an Israeli owner. The 366 meter long ship was en route from the United Arab Emirates to India. The last position was received on Friday afternoon.
No further information was initially known. The incident took place in the Persian Gulf in the Strait of Hormuz. The strait between Iran and Oman is one of the most important shipping routes for global oil exports. The Iranian navy has seized oil tankers and container ships in the past.
