Her colleagues emphasized this after the incident. She responded quickly and decisively, saving many lives. After the perpetrator attacked nine people, the police officer caught him and grabbed her service weapon. “If she hadn’t done that, he would have continued,” an eyewitness told ABC. “He went on the run.”
Emergency assistance still provided
The police officer then provided emergency assistance, but the man died from his serious injuries. “He had a nice big knife with him. “He looked like someone in a homicidal frenzy,” the eyewitness continued. Others reported barricading themselves in stores. Those present rushed to help the people who had been stabbed. Several reports showed crowds of people outside the mall fearing for their loved ones.

The man’s identity and motive remain unclear. The investigation would be ‘long and precise’, say police in the Australian state of New South Wales, where Sydney is also located. The Australian Prime Minister spoke of ‘devastating events’. It was a ‘terrible act of violence’. Innocent people who just wanted to go shopping were stabbed indiscriminately.
