Two serious incidents occurred almost simultaneously in Mariazellerland, Styria on Saturday afternoon. A car crashed into a motorcycle and a snake bite prompted the Red Cross emergency services.
Shortly after 2 p.m., a collision occurred for unknown reasons between a car and a motorcycle on the B24, Hochschwabbundesstrasse, between Greith and Rotmoos, in which the motorcyclist was thrown over the bonnet of the car and seriously injured. After initial medical treatment by the emergency medical team of the Mariazellerland Red Cross, the 18-year-old motorcyclist from the Leoben district was taken to the Scheibbs State Hospital (Lower Austria) in a stable condition.
Just after 2 p.m., another team from the Red Cross Mariazellerland was called in to help a twelve-year-old German holidaymaker after he was bitten by a (presumably young) viper. The family on holiday went independently to the health center in Mariazell, from where the boy was transported by ambulance to the nearby airport after initial care. Ultimately, he was flown to the Amstetten State Hospital (Lower Austria) with the Christophorus 15 emergency medical helicopter.
