After the Danka case (2): – Vucic calls for the reintroduction of the death penalty

Date:

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić calls for the death penalty to be reintroduced in his country. The specific reason for this statement is the missing person case involving the two-year-old girl Danka.

In this context, two men were initially arrested on Thursday after they admitted that the girl had died in a traffic accident.

Danka case: Suspect (40) dies during interrogation
Two close relatives of one of the suspected perpetrators were also arrested on Saturday. One of them, a 40-year-old man, died in custody last night.

The responsible doctor determined that the cause of death was natural and, according to media reports, the Public Prosecution Service ordered an autopsy of the body, TV channel N1 reported.

Vučić had already campaigned for the reintroduction of the death penalty a year ago, when nineteen people were killed in two massacres in Belgrade and Mladenovac.

The death penalty will be abolished in Serbia in 2022
He said at the time that he had been informed by the government that reintroduction would not be possible. The death penalty was abolished in Serbia in 2002. The Serbian president is known for often exceeding his rather modest powers. Prime Minister-designate Miloš Vučević is considered one of his closest aides.
