On Saturday afternoon, two cars collided head-on at high speed in St. Anton im Montafon (Vorarlberg). Miraculously, nothing happened to the people involved in the accident, but both vehicles were a total loss.
Around 2:10 p.m., a 59-year-old driver from Switzerland drove his car along the Montafonerstrasse out of the valley towards Bludenz, with a passenger next to him. In the municipality of St. Anton, the Swiss was suddenly overcome by fatigue and nodded away. The microsleep had fatal consequences: the 59-year-old’s car drifted into oncoming traffic in a slight bend to the right and collided head-on with the car of a 67-year-old woman from Tschagguns.
The two vehicles were so damaged in the crash that the two drivers had to be freed by the fire brigade using rescue scissors. It’s hard to believe: apart from a few minor scratches, the three people involved in the accident were completely unharmed.
