They have made well over a million euros selling cocaine, heroin and marijuana in Leibnitz’s party scene since 2022 – now the gang has been busted. In total, 14 searches, twelve arrests and 40 further reports took place in the exposed drug ring in Styria.
Big success for the narcotics investigators in Leibnitz: they had been on the trail of a drug gang since last year and now the suspects have been caught. Twelve men are suspected of having earned more than one million euros from selling drugs in Leibnitz and Graz between autumn 2022 and March 2024. This would involve eleven kilos of cocaine, more than two kilos of heroin and more than one kilo of marijuana. This also involved amphetamines, ecstasy, hashish and ketamine – with a total sales value of more than one million euros!
The police conducted undercover investigations for months
To catch the group, the police units operated undercover together with the Cobra. They followed the suspects – several Austrians, an Algerian and a Turk – unnoticed on their sales trips. Ultimately, fourteen house searches took place, during which investigators found half a kilo of cocaine, 200 grams of heroin, numerous weapons that looked deceptively real and several thousand euros.
Another 40 advertisements among consumers
But that’s not all: the suspects are accused of other crime-related offenses. They are said to have been guilty of theft, violations of the weapons law and serious bodily harm. Moreover, two of them are said to have traveled without a driver’s license – out of 500 journeys! Forty consumers and intermediaries from the Leibnitz district have now also been reported in connection with the perpetrator group.
Selling drugs is a bread and butter job
Eleven of the suspects are said to have been unemployed and made their living by selling drugs. They found their buyers in Leibnitz’s party scene. A 49-year-old Algerian even stayed in Styria with a fake Maltese identity card, despite not being allowed to stay there. Six of them have already been sentenced to unconditional prison terms.
