What a tragic love story! “Benjamin Button” premiered at the Linz Music Theater. Many people know the film with Brad Pitt, but now the moving material is presented as an opera, which Hermann Schneider stages with audience favorites in such a way that you can even get used to the ‘new music’ by Reinhard Febel.
An unusual plot, but one that has a lot to do with questions about time: Benjamin Button is born an old man and he “ages backwards”, i.e. he gets younger with age and becomes a baby. Hildegarde’s life, on the other hand, proceeds in the usual way. What does that do to love? Ultimately, Hildegarde will be Benjamin’s caregiver. In between, a life story takes place.
