Bizarre rule – Chechnya: music that is too fast is prohibited

Date:

The government of Chechnya has announced a bizarre music rule. Accordingly, the Minister of Culture of the Autonomous Republic of the Russian Federation has announced that in the future music in the country will only be allowed to have a maximum of 116 beats per minute (BPM).

Culture Minister Musa Dadayev explained on Telegram that the new standard would ban techno music. Accordingly, ‘musical, vocal and choreographic compositions’ in Chechnya are now only allowed to have between 80 and 116 beats per minute (BPM). This was reported on Monday by various media, citing the Russian state news agency TASS.

According to the instructions of ruler Ramzan Kadyrov, the authorities of the North Caucasus country must ensure that Chechen music and dance creations are in harmony with the “Chechen mentality and musical rhythm.” The goal is to “bring people closer to the cultural heritage of the Chechen people,” Dadayev said.

The Russian national anthem is too slow
The ban probably means that many songs in music styles such as pop and techno will no longer be allowed to be played in state institutions and radios in the Russian republic. The arrangement could also cause some anger in Moscow. Because: with only 76 BPM, the Russian national anthem is also too slow…

Chechnya, which has fewer than 1.5 million inhabitants and is predominantly Muslim, is increasingly dictatorially ruled by Ramzan Kadyrov. He is personally accused of murders and other serious crimes against humanity, such as extrajudicial killings and torture of his political opponents.
