Oh la la! For Jamilah Habsaoui, mayor of the small French town of Avallon, the handcuffs clicked. No less than 70 kilos of prohibited hashish were found at her home. Did criminal brothers use their sister’s house as a drug den?
In addition to Habsaoui, two of her brothers and four other suspects were arrested. The responsible public prosecutor’s office in Auxerre announced this.
Brothers already officially known
Is the mayor of the 6,400-resident community in the heart of France a drug dealer? As the French media report in unison, the politician was probably unknowingly exploited by her brothers. As the newspaper “Le Parisien” reports, the blood-related duo is said to have been in trouble with the law in the past for drug offenses.
In addition to the 70 kilos of hashish, a kilo of cocaine, 20 gold bars and 7,000 euros in suspected drug money were also seized in the town.
Large-scale drug raid
The delicate case came to light during a large-scale drug raid across the country. From Auxerre to Zoufftgen, exactly 7,177 suspected drug dealers were taken out of circulation within six months. In 482 raids, 3.6 tons of drugs, hundreds of weapons and 11.3 million euros in drug money were seized.
