A temperature drop of almost 30 degrees surprised Styria on Tuesday – in many places winter even returned.
Susanne Leitner from Wald am Schoberpaß was surprised on Tuesday when she looked out the window: the entire house was white. “I got sunburnt on Sunday, but today I’m thinking back to the Sonnberg lifts! “Even the chickens wouldn’t leave their coop,” said the landlady.
Mariazell, Zeltweg, Oberwölz and Graz’s home mountain, the Schöckl, were also covered in sugar and several centimeters of snow even fell on the Stolzalpe.
Allergy sufferers can now breathe deeply
The temperatures also dropped, almost 30 (!) degrees lower than was measured in Styria last weekend. While Leibnitz was the warmest place in the country on Monday with 28.1 degrees, on Tuesday it was Frohnleiten with only 5.5 degrees. In Graz there was a maximum of three degrees. Allergy sufferers can breathe deeply as grass pollen is almost completely flushed from the air. But many drivers were desperate. The winter tire requirement ended on Monday, so anyone who already had an appointment to change their tires had to hope that the roads were free of snow and ice.
As for the weather forecasts for the coming days, there is unfortunately no good news for Styria. The wet and cold weather will remain with us until Sunday, sun, clouds, rain and snowfall alternate – April just does what it wants. So: don’t forget your umbrella and winter coat.
