Google: Increase in searches for eclipse

Date:

On Monday evening in our time, people in North America were able to experience a rare natural spectacle, a total solar eclipse. As is known, you are not allowed to look at this without special glasses, but according to Google, many people apparently did so anyway.

North America has been preparing for Monday’s solar eclipse for days. Millions of people watched the natural spectacle. In some cases even schools remained closed.

Purchasing special glasses was on the to-do list in advance. But not everyone seems to have gotten one.

“Why do my eyes hurt?”
Because after the spectacle in the sky, a special question appears on Google: “Why do my eyes hurt?” “Excessive light burns the retina. This is a sunburn on a very sensitive area.

Even a brief glance at a solar eclipse can cause such damage. Symptoms that may occur include visual disturbances such as blurriness, sensitivity to light, or dark spots. Headaches can also occur. In severe cases there is even a risk of blindness.

American ophthalmologist Avnish Deobhakta reassures Time: ‘In most cases, headaches and eye pain should disappear within a few hours after the eclipse. Especially if you wore safety glasses if necessary.”
