Trial in Feldkirch: traffic hooligan must pay for bodily harm

Date:

Negligent bodily harm: A 19-year-old novice driver had to pay a fine at the Feldkirch Regional Court on Wednesday. That was also because he already had a lot on his plate.

The fact that the 19-year-old suspect has a very relaxed approach to criminal traffic rules is evident from his previous administrative sentences. Including speeding and overtaking on the protective path. The traffic hooligan was in court on Wednesday because he crashed his car into a tree in mid-January. The result: two slightly injured and one seriously injured.

About the speed limit
But from the start: despite the fact that he had been drinking alcohol, the new driver got behind the wheel of his car that evening in Dornbirn, with two friends of the suspect with him. The alcoholic driver races through the city at high speed. In a zone of 30 he loses control of his vehicle and hits a tree. While the 19-year-old and a passenger survived the accident virtually unscathed, another passenger was seriously injured. An alcohol test on the driver shows a level of just under 1.0 per mille.

During the trial, the defendant admitted his guilt and described his behavior as terrible: “The thought that my friends could have been dead still weighs on me today.” However, public prosecutor Wilfried Siegele does not see the 19-year-old as a reformed man: “Excessive speed, overtaking on the protective path and now this! This is unsurpassed in terms of ruthlessness and shows the indifference of the defendant!”

Judge Martin Mitteregger followed the prosecutor’s comments and imposed an unconditional fine of 4,200 euros on the 19-year-old boy. The verdict for personal injury caused by negligence is not final.
