Shot while trying to escape – Bordeaux: Man stabs 3 people during an argument

In the southwestern French city of Bordeaux, a man stabbed a pedestrian and seriously injured two others in a busy area on the banks of the Garonne on Wednesday evening. After the fatal attack, he fled and was shot by police.

This was reported by the broadcaster France Info and other media with reference to the police. The man had refused to put down his gun before being shot dead by police. His identity and motive remain unknown, they said. The dead man is said to be a 36-year-old Algerian who was injured in the neck.

Two seriously injured people taken to hospital
As local newspaper Sud Ouest reported, the attacker had accused a group of people of North African descent of drinking alcohol. The situation escalated and the attacker then pulled a knife. The two seriously injured people were taken to the university clinic in Bordeaux.

Highest level of safety in France
Four months before the Olympic Games in Paris, the highest safety level applies in France. On Wednesday evening, massive security measures were in place during a Champions League match between Paris St-Germain and FC Barcelona in Paris because of fears of Islamic attacks.
