He had already put the knife in his pocket and entered Vienna Central Station, but at the last minute the then 16-year-old decided not to stab people at random. However, his Islamic views still land him before the Vienna Regional Court. He faces a prison sentence of up to five years.
Just like the Viennese attacker Kujtim F. on November 2, 2020, a 16-year-old proudly posted a photo shortly before his planned attack: On September 11, 2023, he marched into the city with a knife and a vest that was intended to imitate a bomb belt in the central Vienna station to stab unbelievers there in the name of IS.
“I was afraid to survive”
Didn’t attend his trial today – the teenager changed his mind at the last minute. During interrogation, he explained to police: “I was afraid of being picked up or held by someone, and of surviving the attack and not going to paradise.” Chat messages, Google searches and photos also speak volumes about his radical attitude.
All this will be a matter for the youth jury. It was announced in advance that the 17-year-old would plead guilty to all this. The process is therefore expected to take only three hours. A ruling is expected around lunchtime.
