Instead of the permitted 100 km/h, he had 159 km/h on the speedometer and was promptly lasered: With 1.28 per mille in his blood, a Romanian (27) sped away from the police on the A9 in Upper- Austria, caused an accident next to the B140 and fled into the forest, where he was eventually arrested.
The incident happened on Thursday at 3.45 pm in Micheldorf, but was only announced now: the highway police lasered the Romanian (27) who was driving at 159 km/h on the A9, with a permitted speed of 100 km/h. . The police officers chased the fleeing driver with flashing lights and a horn. He sped up.
Taking into account various traffic rules and without regard for other motorists, he left the highway in Klaus for the B138 towards Kirchdorf. A police officer tried to stop the car, but the fleeing driver ignored him.
Cyclists in danger
The suspect continued his journey on the B140, speeding off the main road onto the narrow, confusing Steyrtal cycle path at a speed of 125 km/h. In doing so, he significantly endangered oncoming cyclists. After about 1.5 kilometers, the lead foot had an accident and the police were able to catch up with the car.
When officers arrived, the driver jumped out of the car and took off. He fled over the B140 and over the steep dike through the forest. After a few hundred meters he was stopped by the two police officers.
The car was not registered for traffic
During the investigation it was determined that the car, an Opel, was not registered for use. The license plates were stolen at night. The suspect is also suspected of having committed fuel fraud in Vienna using other suppressed license plates.
An alcohol test for the 27-year-old was positive: 1.28 per mille. After consultation with the Steyr Public Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect is taken to prison
