“Inexeless” – Severe floods on the Australian East Coast

Tagae -long heavy rainfall has led to serious floods on the east coast. A river that flows through the region rose to a record level of more than six meters – and surpassed the previous high from 1929. The authorities fear that the water will swell even due to new rainfall.

The television broadcaster ABC spoke about “floods unprecedented size” and showed photos of people who had to be saved by emergency services and boats through their roofs. According to the authorities, the emergency services were used with around 1,600 helpers.

Waiting for salvation: “River surrounds us from all sides”
However, some residents waited in vain for salvation all night. The Omroep 9News spoke with a woman who had been on the roof of her house for about twelve hours with her family, while brown water masses flowed under her meter -high. “It’s a really dangerous situation because the river surrounds us from all sides,” she said. “We just want to be saved.”

Weather service warns of “life -threatening floods”
More than 80 schools were initially closed. There were power errors. In the meantime, meteorologists predicted further violent rainfall by Friday. The State Weather Service warned in some regions of “life -threatening floods”.
