Military helicopters fly over New York City! This is neither a fake nor an invasion of the US by Austria. The Army’s Black Hawks needed an update in America and took a detour.
The two Black Hawks flew from Alabama to Connecticut through ten American states. The flight duration was seven hours and three refueling stops had to be made, says the commander of the four-man crew, Herbert Santner. The reason for the trip was a demonstration of the new cockpit.
The two S70 Black Hawks received an avionics modernization at Ace Aeronautics LLC in Guntersville, Alabama. Because manufacturer Sikorsky is interested in the adjustments to the cockpit, there was a short stop in Stratford, Connecticut. From there, the Falcons flew to the seaport in Norfolk, Virginia, where they will be shipped to Antwerp early next week. The two aircraft are expected there at the beginning of May and then fly back to their hometown of Langenlebarn.
