ORF journalist Susanne Newrkla has died after a long, serious illness, the ORF editorial staff announced on Saturday. She was only 55 years old.
Newrkla has contributed to shaping foreign reporting for decades, especially in the radio magazines on Ö1, Ö3, FM4 and the regional ORF radio stations. “She was a pillar of the editorial team, including as a correspondent for the ORF in Washington,” the committee praised the colleague.
She would be remembered by everyone as a very positive person. “She was never cynical or distant, and she believed in good with all her might. She charmed her colleagues with her smile and unwavering optimism. She was considered the soul of foreign radio policy where she cared about and listened to the problems of others until the end. We miss them,” it continues.
