An event with about 100 guests took place at the Hinzenbach town hall on Saturday. After the last person, the mayor, left the building, a fire broke out. The reason may have been a catering team cleaning up in the kitchen. And in Reichersberg there was a fire in a shooting cellar.
Residents became aware of the fire around 2:45 p.m. due to rising smoke from the Hinzenbach town hall. Previously, the building was still fully occupied with around 100 event guests, and just fifteen minutes before the smoke broke out, the local boss was the last to leave the city office – at that time there was still no trace of fire.
The fire started in the kitchen on the first floor and, according to police, several rooms on the same floor were severely damaged. 35 firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and declared the fire “extinguished” around 3:25 p.m. No one was injured.
The fire investigators’ investigation revealed that the on/off button on a ceramic hob was likely pressed accidentally while assembling items in the kitchen. The coffee maker placed on it caught fire. The kitchen was previously used by a catering company to serve event guests.
Fire of gunpowder
The Florianis had to go to a fire in Reichersberg in the morning. There, a shooting competition started at 8 a.m. with 34 participants, held in a shooting cellar. When the fire broke out, two snipers and a ranger were in the basement, according to police information. When one of the shooters tried to fire his third shot, the unburned gunpowder may have ignited, setting the room on fire.
Due to the heavy smoke, the entire building subsequently had to be evacuated. Ten fire brigades and approximately 140 emergency services responded and about an hour later the extinguishing work was successfully completed. No one was injured in this operation.
