Leaked document – Combustion engine to stop in 2035: why it doesn’t work

Date:

Understandably, not everyone is happy with the ‘Krone’ story being quoted across Europe about the impending lifting of the ban on combustion engines, scheduled for 2035. But the then ambitious plans of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who is part of the EPP, and the heads of state were seriously shaky. Krone+ shows a new, leaked document (see below) from the Commission in which the ‘e-car-only principle’ simply no longer applies. And why even Von der Leyen’s own commissioner stabs her in the back.

Before the upcoming EU elections in June, in which, among other things, the ban on combustion engines plays a central role, nerves are often tense. Originally, the European Commission, after very close consultation with the responsible transport ministers, planned to no longer authorize new vehicles with combustion engines from 2035 and to rely 100 percent on electric cars (E-only). But now electric cars are mainly responsible for ensuring that this doesn’t happen.
