Deep “Maya” is coming – gloomy forecast: heavy rain, storm and hail

Date:

The beautiful summer weather is over for the time being: the experts predicted – as reported – the worst storms in Austria for Sunday evening. Storms and flash floods have already killed one in France. The low “Maya” migrates from northern France via the Benelux countries to the north and should then spread to the east from Upper Austria and Salzburg at night, according to the storm center. The ZAMG forecast for the coming days is therefore unstable and prone to storms.

The Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) in Salzburg had already issued a thunderstorm warning for the evening on Sunday morning. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, gusts and hail are expected from the Innviertel in Upper Austria, the Flachgau and Tennengau in Salzburg, spreading east and south until after midnight.

Heavy rain, showers and hail possible
The strongest storm is expected in Upper Austria between 17 and 21 from the Innviertel to Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen. The heaviest showers are expected to fall in the Innviertel. “In all parts of the country, there are likely to be storms with top speeds of 80 km/h and above,” ZAMG said in the warning. Hail may also fall.

The ZAMG advises taking into account the probability of lightning and thunder and storm warnings at lakes and to take into account rapid developments and changes in the thunderstorm path. Outdoor movable objects such as party tents, trampolines and garden furniture should be secured, windows, doors and gates should be closed. It is important to land early with sport planes and to reach ports quickly with boats. Temporary power outages may occur.

Vienna threatens ‘heaviest thunderstorm day’ of the year so far
The thunderstorms finally reach the federal capital in the evening: the highest storm warning level was therefore issued for Vienna. “It will rain heavily in your region from Sunday night. Monday morning there will be a total of 50 to 60 liters per square meter,” the storm center said. “All in all, there is potential for the worst thunderstorm day of the year in Austria,” it warned on Twitter.

Forecast for the coming days
The coming week will also be unstable and stormy. Continue in the east mounting the remnants of the nighttime disturbance in the morning, but it can still rain here in the morning. During the day mainly dry and sometimes sunny weather. The sun also shines over the western half again and again. In the afternoon, however, stronger cumulus clouds will appear and rain and thunderstorms will occur again, especially in the west. A moderate to strong westerly wind will blow between Upper Austria and the Greater Vienna area, weakening during the day. Early temperatures reach twelve to 19 degrees, in the afternoon 21 to 28 degrees.

ben Tuesday lies a fault zone above northwestern Austria and progresses very slowly. In general, the weather on Tuesday is very unstable. Early in the morning, dense clouds and showers, some of which can be heavy, move along and north of the Alps. In the east and southeast it will initially remain sunny for longer. But here too, the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases considerably in the afternoon. The wind is usually very weak. The morning temperatures are between ten and 17 degrees, the maximum daytime temperatures from west to east between 20 and 27 degrees.

It is said that another fault zone appears at night Wednesday cross the federal territory, during the rest of the day there are residual clouds, especially on the north side of the Alps, it rains again and again. Otherwise it will at least occasionally be sunny with loose clouds. In the still unstable layered air, powerful cumulus clouds develop during the day, from which even more rain showers can fall. However, the chance of thunderstorms is small. It remains the driest of Vorarlberg and the Tyrolean Oberland. The wind is often only weak from mainly westerly directions. The morning temperature is between eleven and 18 degrees, the maximum daytime temperature between 20 and 25 degrees, depending on the length of the sun.
