Residents in shock – corpse in Viennese cellar: “Reminiscent of the Ice Lady”

Date:

Residents of the small town of Hundsturm in Vienna-Margareten are stunned: Construction workers found a heavily decomposed corpse in a cellar on Tuesday. Buried under the rubble, the lifeless body is said to have been there for some time. “A scary story like that of the ice lady,” one of the residents remembers the case from 2011.

“I couldn’t help the police because I haven’t noticed anything suspicious lately,” says the Armenian manager of a shoe service shop at the same address, bewildered. A day earlier, workers had discovered the body, which was already seriously decomposed, during renovation work in one of the cellars on Margaretener Bräuhausgasse. They got a big shock.

But news of the horrible event quickly spreads in the neighborhood: the two students Donata and Franziska were frightened when they discovered that the corpse was in the cellar.

What seems clear: the body was hidden in the basement long ago. However, the police still want to clarify whether it was murder or manslaughter. A possible ‘murder motive’ is as unclear as the identity of the deceased.

Case allows amateur criminals to speculate
“Our detectives are investigating in all directions,” said Julia Schick, press spokeswoman for the Vienna police. Hobby criminals believe that a deceased person may have been hidden by family members or acquaintances in order to continue collecting his income, pension, etc.

Case is reminiscent of that of the “Ice Lady”
If you look back into the past, there are some parallels with the ‘Ice Lady’ case from 2011. Estibaliz Carranza had murdered two men and she too had hidden the body parts in a basement room under her ice cream parlor in Vienna. Meidling. Her terrible secret was also revealed at the time by repair work in the basement.
