On Thursday evening, five fire brigades with 68 men responded to a house fire in Hollabrunn in Lower Austria. Metre-high flames shot out of every window.
Shortly before 3 a.m., the Florianis from the fire brigade of the city of Hollabrunn were warned of a house fire. The extension of the former Aumühle caught fire. “There were already meter-high flames coming out of all the windows. The roof structure also burned completely,” reports operations manager Markus Pfeifer of the Hollabrunn fire brigade. “We knew the building had been vacant for a long time, so the first and foremost priority was to protect the building next door.”
Workplace can be protected
Emergency services launched an extensive firefighting attack on the front and rear of the building. The adjacent day workshop could be protected.
Five fire brigades in action
68 fire brigade members from five fire brigades – including the Hollabrunn, Magersdorf, Oberfellabrunn, Suttenbrunn, Wullersdorf and the Hollabrunn district fire brigade – battled the flames. There were also several police patrols and the Red Cross on site. “Fire out” could be given shortly before 4:30 am.
