Cell phone went off in elevator shaft: parents raised alarm
The incident initially went unnoticed, but the 25-year-old’s parents became concerned when their daughter had not returned home. When they tried to reach her on her mobile phone, the ringing led them to the lift shaft. “I immediately realised something had happened and raised the alarm,” her father said.
Suspected fault in the locking system
Ultimately, more than a hundred emergency services were called to the scene of the accident. It took the fire brigade several hours to remove the body of the Italian woman from the elevator shaft. Investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the tragedy. “We assume that there is a malfunction in the locking system, because the door can only be opened when the cabin is on the ground,” an investigator explained.
