Negotiations stalled – Thousands of Israelis protested hostage deal

Date:

A number of Israelis have now demonstrated around the coastal city of Tel Aviv in support of a hostage deal with Hamas. According to the local newspaper The Times of Israel, a human chain was created about 85 kilometers long. The Hostage Relatives Forum said thousands of Israelis took part in the action.

About 1,000 people are said to have come to the beach in the city of Rishon Lezion alone. From there, the human chain moved further north, according to the organizing team. The aim of the action was to increase pressure on the government to make a deal with the Islamist Hamas for the hostages. The information could not initially be independently verified.

Israelis continue to take to the streets against the right-wing government under Benjamin Netanyahu (see video above). Your government and Hamas have been negotiating indirectly for months about a ceasefire and the release of more hostages. Until a few weeks ago, it was believed that nearly a hundred people abducted to the Gaza Strip on October 7 might still be alive. There are now fears that there could be significantly more deaths.

No success to be expected
Relatives of the abductees accuse the Israeli government of having no serious interest in securing the release of the abductees. Representatives from the US, Egypt and Qatar are mediating. There is currently no breakthrough in sight in the negotiations.
