Three people were killed in a shooting on the street in the American metropolis of Philadelphia on Sunday evening. Eleven other people were injured, police said. There were several shooters. The incident reportedly happened on a street known for its vibrant nightlife.
A total of 14 people with gunshot wounds were taken to hospital. Of them, two men and a woman were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. All three sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Shot a perpetrator?
Police officers allegedly shot one of the perpetrators. However, it was initially unclear whether it had been hit. Two firearms were also found at the South Street crime scene, police said. The investigation is underway and there are “many unanswered questions”.
“Multiple Shooters”
According to the New York Post, patrolling officers heard numerous gunshots and immediately rushed to the area, which is home to numerous entertainment venues, bars and restaurants. There, they saw “several active gunmen” firing at the crowd, a police officer said.
“You can imagine there were hundreds of people on South Street, like every weekend, when this shooting broke out,” he added.
