Ukrainian troops have launched a counter-attack in the disputed city of Sieverodonetsk. The deployed Russian troops are poorly equipped and trained, the Defense Ministry said in London on Sunday. Because the British government has been unusually open since the start of the war and regularly publishes intelligence information, the Kremlin is already accusing it of a targeted disinformation campaign.
In recent days, the Russian army has mainly fought in the Donbass in eastern Ukraine. With the exception of Sieverodonetsk and Lysychansk, it already has full control over the Luhansk region. Russian troops were previously focused on firepower and specific units, which gave them a certain operational dynamism. However, according to British information, the soldiers most recently deployed to Sievjerodonetsk were reserves of the self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic”. These troops would be ill-equipped and trained and would limit the loss of regular Russian troops. The Russian army has already deployed auxiliaries to Syria to liberate enemy cities, the ministry said.
Kremlin threatens new attacks
Since the British government has been unusually open since the start of the war in Ukraine and regularly discloses information from the secret service, the Kremlin speaks of a targeted disinformation campaign. In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to attack new targets if the US starts supplying Ukraine with long-range missiles. Such missiles have a range of more than 5500 kilometers and a high speed. The British government has been working with the US military to further develop existing missiles. Russia also has its own long-range missiles.
US and Spain supply more weapons
Other weapons have already been promised to Ukraine – precision HIMARS missile systems from the US and anti-aircraft missiles and Leopard battle tanks from Spain. According to the newspaper “El Pais”, Spain should also offer training in tank handling, which could be held in their own country and in Latvia. The country has 500 NATO soldiers stationed there. Spain has so far supplied Ukraine with ammunition, protective equipment and light weapons.
