An 83-year-old slipped on wet ground while walking with a dog in Liezen on Saturday morning and fell about 50 meters. A pedestrian following noticed the accident and started the rescue chain. The 83-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Around 5:45 a.m., the 83-year-old went for a walk with his son’s dog towards the Marienwaldweg. After about 30 minutes of walking, the man slipped on the wet, leaf-covered ground. He fell about 50 meters down steep and impassable terrain and came to rest in a stream. The 83-year-old tried to get back on the path under his own power. Due to his injuries and the fact that he was heavily soaked, he could not move any further and clung to a branch. He tried to draw attention to himself by shouting for help.
Serious injury
A following pedestrian became aware of the accident victim and initiated the rescue chain via an emergency call. The arriving police officers went to the 83-year-old and administered first aid. The accident victim was rescued by the Liezen mountain rescue team. The 83-year-old was taken by the WCC to the LKH Rottenmann with serious injuries. The dog ran independently back to the victim’s home.
The Liezen mountain rescue service was deployed to the scene of the accident with eight men and a mountain rescue doctor, the WCC with two paramedics and the Liezen police station with two officers.
