Three months after the collapse of the roof of the station in Serbian Novi Sad, a small group for the Serbian embassy in Vienna on Saturday wanted to demonstrate against corruption, which is held responsible for the 15 death accident. As if out of nowhere, the number of participants exploded.
It was planned under the title “Support of the citizens, students and students in Serbia” only a small gesture of solidarity with the increasingly intensive protests against President Aleksandar Vučić for days. The organizers expected a ‘family’ meeting with around 60 participants for the Ambassad building in Ölzeltgasse in Vienna-Landstrasse. They had judged themselves wrong.
Blow up hundreds of demonstrators
Apparently the information about the demonstration over internet channels had spread like an ongoing fire. Immediately at the start of the rally at 11.30 am an inflow of hundreds started.
In half an hour, the masses, according to estimates of non -relatively observers, had grown to around 700 people. They disappeared just as quickly as they came: shortly after 1 p.m. there was only a small group in front of the embassy.
The loud protests, especially against Vučić, were only interrupted by a minute of silence for the victims of the train station. The police were also strengthened by members of the State Security, but did not have to ask for reinforcements. According to information from the State Police Directorate, the Rally remained peaceful and there was no knowledge of material damage.
