Luxury shipyard plans to sue billionaire’s widow for damage to its image

Date:

When the superyacht Bayesian sinks off the coast of Sicily, billionaire wife Angela Baraces not only loses her husband and daughter (18), she barely survives the tragedy herself. Now the widow is threatened with legal repercussions: the luxury shipyard wants to sue her for the damage to her image.

The yacht accident in mid-August killed seven people in total. The ship sank during a storm for reasons that are still unclear. The shipyard The Italian Sea Group had previously advertised the 56-meter yacht as unsinkable.

Photos of the Italian fire brigade’s operation to recover the bodies:

Shortly after the accident, the company had made serious accusations against the crew: the ship would not have sunk if the correct manoeuvres had been carried out. The crew made a series of ‘indescribable, unreasonable mistakes’. Construction defects are ruled out.

The crew was deemed unfit
The yacht company is therefore demanding a total of 222 million euros for damage to its image. The lawsuit is also directed against billionaire widow Angela Bacares – she is complicit in the drama by selecting an unsuitable crew and their actions. The woman was officially the owner of the mega yacht. Lawyers have already been hired, but a formal lawsuit has not yet been approved. In addition to the British company Revtom Limited, which is run by the widow, claims will also be filed against an international luxury yacht operator, Camper & Nicholsons.

In this post, Mike Lynch is seen with his wife Angela Bacares:

Captain in the sights of the investigators
Shortly after the accident, the police investigated whether the Dutch captain James Cutfield, who managed to escape from the Bayesian, had underestimated the danger of the storm. The 51-year-old is considered very experienced. “The storm came out of the blue,” the captain explained after the sinking. However, the company believes that the captain was not up to the task of steering the yacht.

The seven dead included billionaire Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah Lynch, investment bank manager Morgan Stanley International Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Anne Elizabeth, lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Nada. Most of the 10-man crew managed to escape the ship, but only cook Thomas Recaldo died.

The wreck of the luxury yacht is still 56 meters deep. She should be repaired, but there is no date yet.
