Roommate fights happen everywhere and at all times. But the brutality of what happened in Colorado is hard to beat. A trio tortured a 45-year-old man with crowbars, baseball bats and rubbing alcohol.
Police accuse homeowner Jason Carlson, along with two other tenants, of overpowering a male victim and torturing him for 14 hours. The trio now face charges of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.
Men broke open the door
According to the Denver Post, the abused individual stated that he had moved into Carlson’s home with his sister just two weeks before the crime. On Sunday morning, he overheard the homeowner talking to Sherell Allen and Luke Anaya about wanting to beat him up: “I barricaded myself in my bedroom at that point, but the others were still able to break the door down.”
His attackers allegedly shot him with air pistols and pinned him to the ground: “Then someone stepped on my neck with their foot and I fainted.” When he regained consciousness, he was tied to a chair with plastic handcuffs and tubing and tape.
Rubbing alcohol poured over face
Carlson, Allen and Anaya allegedly took turns torturing him using various torture methods. While one of his tormentors beat his knees with a baseball bat, the second pulled a crowbar across his skull. The third party poured rubbing alcohol on his face and set it on fire.
The ordeal didn’t end until late that evening when another roommate came home and convinced the others to let go of their victim, then drove the injured man to the emergency room of a local hospital.
According to the prosecutor, the 45-year-old’s injuries supported his claims: “He had burns to his face, severely swollen kneecaps and a broken thyroid cartilage in his neck. His wrists and ankles showed deep marks, similar to those caused by being restrained with plastic handcuffs.”
Carlson (49), Allen (48) and Anaya (41), who face up to 50 years in prison if convicted, are currently still in custody – after failing to post $300,000 bail each. Her victim is still being treated in hospital.
