Even though the German federal government now wants to tighten the approval for the possession, consumption and cultivation of cannabis, which has been in force since April 1, and Deutsche Bahn also includes a ban on train stations in its house rules, the liberalization of drug policy in Germany is still celebrated. On Saturday, thousands of people in Berlin went to the Brandenburg Gate and had a ‘smoke-in’.
Artists played music on a stage and there were gatherings. Experienced juvenile judge and cannabis activist Andreas Müller welcomed the people with the words: “Dear cannabis users who are no longer criminalized.” It’s a great day, Germany has taken the right path with legalization after a long period of prohibition.
“No plant is illegal”
Photos showed people wearing large, inflatable joints or clothing with cannabis leaves printed on them. Signs include: ‘Not everyone wants to drink!’ or ‘No plant is illegal.’
April 20 is a day of action for potheads worldwide, i.e. smokers of marijuana and hashish. In the US the date is 4/20 – the number 420 has long been a code for cannabis use.
