Hear who’s hammering! In this case, it was the fire brigade who woke a 78-year-old from her sleep in Waldneukirchen, Upper Austria, on Sunday morning. A passerby raised the alarm when he noticed a fire in the square yard.
The fire in the farm started in the early morning hours. Around 5:30 am, a road user noticed a fire at the Vierkanthof in Waldneukirchen. He called the fire brigade. They started fighting the fire through a window and had to break down the front door to search for people in the clearly occupied building.
The farmer’s wife was in the bedroom
The 78-year-old homeowner was in the bedroom on the first floor of the home. She hadn’t noticed the fire yet. She told emergency services that she had lit the fireplace in the ‘fireplace room’ the day before. After the fire went out around midnight, she left the room.
The room with fireplace was severely damaged by the fire. Fortunately, no one was injured.
