Drama at a children’s birthday party in the US: A young pair of siblings died Saturday afternoon when a driver crashed her car into a boat club on Lake Erie, Michigan.
The eight-year-old and her five-year-old brother died at the scene of the accident, several American media reported on Sunday (local time), citing police. Nine people were taken to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries, including three children. Helicopters were also deployed.
Driver was drunk – arrested by police
The 66-year-old driver of the car was arrested. She is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle drove more than 7.5 meters into the Swan Boat Club building before coming to a stop, American media report.
First responders described the scenes at the scene as “extremely chaotic, with a high level of emotion.” It was initially unclear how many people were in the boat club on Lake Erie, about 30 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
“Please keep everyone included in your thoughts and prayers. We thank everyone for their condolences and prayers,” the boat club wrote on its Facebook page (see post above).
