Our planet is more vulnerable than ever! Greenpeace would like to draw special attention to this on today’s fateful day for Mother Earth. But there are eco-pioneers who give hope.
Above all, the flood of plastic is shining a bright spotlight on the triple crisis facing our planet: global warming, species extinction and the serious pollution of so many sensitive habitats,” Greenpeace activist Lisa Tamina Panhuber is once again sounding the alarm. Your passionate appeal to safeguard the Earth, especially today, and thus the survival of humanity, is more than urgent: without a healthy environment there is no valuable food!
The focus of this year’s Earth Saving Day, declared by the UN: stopping the global contamination of our last natural paradises with dangerous civilized waste. Horrible fact: millions and millions of tons of plastic waste have already sunk to the bottom of our oceans. Panhuber knows: “The world community has been negotiating an agreement on earth for almost an eternity without success to finally contain this catastrophe, which becomes a tsunami with every sea wave.”
Thousands of creation keepers in Austria
The organic farmer Alfred Grand from Absdorf in the heart of the Tullnerfeld (Lower Austria) is invited to stand in front of the curtain as a representative of thousands of conservationists who are quietly but persistently doing ecologically good things in Austria. With an unimaginable idealism he takes care of his ‘Grand Farm’, a small universe in itself. The heart of vegetable production, where each plant is pulled by hand – without tractors (!): harmonious composting and soil refinement with secret allies in the depths of the earth, namely hardworking earthworms! Organic horticulture included!
Grand’s vision goes far beyond his model farm, which is unique in Austria and also serves as a research facility: “A purely organic vegetable garden, similar to mine, should be created in every village! We can promote a regional, climate-friendly offer.”
Also intensively involved in saving our planet is the young Carinthian Felix Krainer (see video below), who once wanted to preserve creation. From a small straw heap grew a mighty tribe – and a gentle wave became a tidal wave of positive, good ecological deeds. For two years now, the ‘Planet Matters’ initiative has been pursuing a goal that is as simple as it is efficient: deploying hundreds of thousands of volunteers to free the Earth from the clutches of the waste plague.
And with active idealism and action that you would only wish for from the destructive climate activists and demonstrators. “We don’t point the finger at others, we take action ourselves,” says Krainer, clarifying the environmental credo of his TikTok movement, which has now become a global power.
Clean-up campaign by Viennese HAK students
Currently a shining example and at the same time the beginning of the exemplary cleaning campaign: The students of the 4th class of the Federal Trade Academy in Vienna-Hietzing move through fields and corridors with logistical support from waste management legend and Saubermacher founder Hans Roth. He had provided grabs, garbage bags and more. Inspiring motivation that Roth recommends to all “Krone” readers: Every person can do something in the spirit of our eco-pioneer Felix! Especially today on World Earth Day, but also far beyond.
