On Monday evening, despite new gun ban rules, another brutal knife attack took place in Vienna-Favoriten. An unknown man simply attacked two victims and demanded their cell phones. When they refused, he simply stabbed them.
Police were called to Quellenstrasse around 11:10 PM after one of the victims was seriously injured. When they arrived, emergency services immediately started first aid measures. However, there was already no trace of the unknown man. One of the victims said during interrogation that they only wanted to buy cigarettes from the vending machine and were suddenly threatened by the suspect.
Victim seriously injured in the stomach
When they refused to hand over their cell phones, one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the victims. Then the unknown people fled. Vienna’s professional rescue service provided emergency medical care to the injured man and took him to hospital with abdominal injuries.
There was no danger to life. The investigation into the unknown man has been in full swing since then. One of the victim’s jackets was found near the crime scene and seized.
Weapons ban law since March
The weapons ban law has been in force at Reumannplatz in Vienna since the end of March. Anyone caught with a prohibited weapon must pay a fine of up to 1,000 euros. For repeat offenders, the amount can rise to a maximum of 4,600 euros. The ban is initially limited to June 30, 2024.
