The victim and the perpetrator already knew each other, they went along voluntarily, but that is of course not a license for all kinds of attacks. That’s what a Syrian now felt at the Innsbruck regional court.
On October 14, a Syrian girl (14) allegedly went from her hometown to the apartment in Innsbruck with a 23-year-old. What happened next was no longer what she wanted. The man allegedly used physical force five times to force her to have sexual intercourse and threatened to kill her if she told others about it.
Judge public
The trial took place behind closed doors on Monday, but the verdicts and their reasoning in these cases are still public. Accordingly, the jury led by Judge Thomas Wallnöfer agreed that the suspect should be found guilty.
The young man was given a four-year unconditional prison sentence and must pay 5,000 euros to his victim. The fact that the girl was not actually injured should be seen as positive, “but the concept of violence includes everything that tries to overcome the physical strength and resistance of the other,” Wallnöfer argued. The defense has filed a ‘full appeal’.
