Three German citizens were arrested in Düsseldorf and Bad Homburg on serious suspicion of espionage. The suspects’ homes and workplaces were also searched.
The three Germans Thomas R. and the couple Herwig and Ina F. were arrested in Düsseldorf and Bad Homburg, the federal prosecutor general said. Thomas R. is said to have provided China with information about new technologies that could be used militarily.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspects are strongly suspected of having spied for a Chinese secret service since at least June 2022. They are also accused of violating the Foreign Trade Act.
