A 15-year-old called 911 on both Monday and Sunday and made serious observations, such as a death in the Marchfeld Canal or a fire. The boy was quickly found.
An initially unknown caller told police over the phone that he had noticed a lifeless person floating in the Marchfeld Canal. It wasn’t until January that a dismembered body was actually pulled from the canal, bringing back horrific memories.
A large contingent of emergency services – police, rescue services and fire brigade – rushed to the scene, but could not find anyone. When asked, the caller increasingly gave conflicting information and apparently incorrect information. No lifeless person was seen floating at the indicated location or in the nearby area.
Fires were a “joke”
On the same day and on Sunday, the prankster made an emergency call to the fire brigade due to a fire in a stairwell and in a restaurant in Vienna-Floridsdorf. In these cases too, it quickly became clear that it was once again a “joke”.
During the course of the investigation, it was quickly determined that the caller was a 15-year-old. Investigations are underway into suspected misuse of emergency signals.
