A primary school in Klagenfurt in shock: an eight-year-old was almost scalped in a dramatic incident. His hair was stuck in a machine.
A family from Klagenfurt experienced a real nightmare last week. Like every other day, the eight-year-old son said goodbye to Stefanie D. on Friday, before he had to go to school. On the agenda that day was a trip to a farm near St. Veit. At the time, no one could have imagined that it would end in a horror accident.
Eight year old literally scalped
The mother’s descriptions are shocking: “The children visited a mill that was being put into operation. My son’s long hair must have gotten in there somehow.” The eight-year-old was literally scalped and had to have stitches on the top of his head. What remains is a 17 centimeter seam.
“Because part of the scalp was missing, the surgeon had to tighten the skin considerably. The hope now is that the skin will still have good blood circulation and will grow again,” says the mother, who fears that the accident will be swept under the table and trivialized – or even attributed to her injured child.
The police and the education bureau are investigating the incident
Responding to a ‘Krone’ investigation, the director said the incident was properly handled and reported to the Directorate of Education. The children present were supervised by school psychologists. Education director Isabella Penz: “It is now our job to check whether any supervision obligations have been violated. The AUVA also has an accident report.”
The police are also investigating whether all necessary safety measures have been observed on the farm. The people there are shocked: “School classes have been coming to our farm for forty years, and something like this has never happened before.”
Stefanie D. hopes for a good resolution and clarification. Her son is now on the mend.
