Fire alarm in the early morning hours in Eibesbrunn in the municipality of Großebersdorf in the district of Mistelbach (Lower Austria). A dozen electric cars were on fire on a company site. Arson is suspected.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, the fire brigades around Eibesbrunn were warned of a fire in a business premises on Gewerbestrasse. Five firefighters rushed to the scene and a fire alarm level of 3 was issued. When the Florianis arrived, several electric cars were on fire. Some vehicles were spared, but others started burning again. In addition to the twelve electric cars, another vehicle was also hit, according to police spokesman Stefan Loidl.
A short time later, after emergency services had brought the fires under control, the Florianis faced a new challenge. The Wolkersdorf volunteer fire brigade reports a “thermal runaway”. In some vehicles the fire flared up again and again because of the damaged batteries.
Arson suspected
The police are investigating at full speed and there is a suspicion of arson. The exact circumstances and background of the incident are currently being investigated.
