Wels wants to punish households that dump the wrong waste in the organic waste bin. Plastic, metal, glass, diapers, construction rubble, cigarette butts – the number of so-called misthrows has increased in recent weeks. That is why the ‘Aktion Sharp’ is now being started, as councilor Thomas Rammerstorfer (Greens), responsible for waste management, announced in a broadcast on Thursday. If this is repeated, the organic waste container may also be confiscated.
Only with significant additional effort can the wrong waste be separated from the biogenic material, which then complicates the composting process, it was said. But because this is exactly what has happened in recent months, the city will take action now.

“Colleagues at the garbage truck will check for incorrect contents when collecting,” said waste official Lukas Aitzetmüller. This will be documented with photos. The first missed throw receives a red card. Owners can then hand out the wrong substances, the rest will be taken with them the next time the organic tour is emptied.
Free organic waste bins must be withdrawn
“If the violation is committed again, the bio container will only be emptied by the residual waste tour at an additional cost,” is the plan. This costs between ten and twelve euros. If this pollution continues, the city of Wels will collect the free organic waste bin. Rammerstorfer also wants to provide the population with more information about what is and is not allowed in the organic waste bin. But consequences must also be drawn in individual cases.
