Missiles fired – US and South Korea send signal to North Korea

Date:

North Korea has already conducted 23 missile tests this year. The last launches took place on Sunday. Now, in a joint military maneuver, the United States and South Korea have sent an incomprehensible signal to the communist regime in Pyongyang – in the form of eight missiles.

The eight projectiles were fired within ten minutes early Monday morning and eventually fell into the Sea of Japan (Korean: Baltic Sea), the general staff in Seoul said, according to a report from South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. According to the South Korean military, in response to the missile launches ordered by Pyongyang, the Allies wanted to demonstrate “the ability and determination for immediate precision strikes” on targets in North Korea. The Seoul General Staff accused the other side of targeted provocations, urging them to “abstain from actions that exacerbate military tensions in the Korean peninsula and security concerns.”

Pyongyang has repeatedly protested the joint maneuvers and criticized them as rehearsals for an invasion of North Korea. Go Myong-hyun of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies told AFP that North Korea apparently shot down the missiles on Sunday “because it believes the magnitude of the joint maneuvers has increased”.

US and South Korea fear new nuclear test
UN resolutions prohibit North Korea from testing ballistic missiles, which, depending on the design, can also carry one or more nuclear warheads. Ballistic missiles are usually surface-to-surface missiles. The US and South Korea fear that North Korea could also conduct another nuclear test at any moment.
