Police in Washington state had to conduct an animal operation on Sunday. Four zebras escaped near a highway.
The owner – a private individual – was on his way to Montana, a little further east, and had stopped to secure the van.
Police spokesperson: “This is a first for me”
Police spokesman Rick Johnson documented the events on X, formerly Twitter. “This is a first for me and everyone involved,” he wrote there. “Crazy!!” With the help of local residents, three of the animals were initially captured. The whereabouts of the fourth animal are still unknown.
A video on Facebook shows one of the zebras apparently wandering through the yard of a residential building as a woman talks to it and tries to attract it. “I can now put professional zebra driver on my resume,” the video caption reads.
