A graffiti attack was carried out in the early hours of Monday morning in the center of the Islamic Federation in Sollenau, Lower Austria. An unknown person gained entry to the building and defaced several walls of the mosque with racist slogans. The assault has already been reported. The police are now looking for the perpetrator, who was also filmed by a surveillance camera…
“While we were sure that such attacks were not possible, we were tragically shown the opposite,” the Islamic Federation Sollenau said in a shocked Facebook post.
Suspect filmed in action
For example, the perpetrator illegally gained access to the mosque grounds around 3 a.m. The stranger then proceeded to disfigure the walls of the house with a spray can. However, what the graffiti man may not have noticed is that he was filmed “in flagranti” by a security camera (see video).
The police have now been notified. As reported to krone.at by the LPD Lower Austria, a complaint had been filed against unknown persons. The Sollenau police are now in charge of the investigation and are looking for the perpetrator.
“We condemn the action in the strongest possible terms”
“This attack is not just an attack on our mosque,” the operator said, “but is against an entire religious community, its followers and religious freedom.” Therefore, this “Islamophobic action is condemned in the strongest terms”. Political leaders are expected to “strongly hold to account” extremists who perpetrate racially motivated attacks.
