On Wednesday morning, a woman was floating in the water of the Graz Mühlgang. An eyewitness immediately jumped into the water and pulled the 22-year-old to shore, while other passersby initiated a perfect rescue chain.
Three passers-by between the ages of 31 and 39, living in the Jakomini district of Graz, really showed moral courage on Wednesday. A resident of Hungary saw a motionless person floating in the Mühlgang at Hergottwiesgasse 44 around 7:30 am. The 39-year-old didn’t hesitate for a second, immediately jumped into the water and pulled the young woman (22) to the shore.
Two other witnesses (a woman and a man) called 911. All three initiated first aid measures, setting up a perfectly functioning rescue chain. Officers from the police station in Kärntner Straße started giving chest compressions after arrival. This was supported by a defibrillator located in the company car.
Together with rescuers and other Graz police officers (Karlauer Straße and rapid intervention group), the first responders managed to determine the vital signs of the woman from Afghanistan after just 15 minutes. She was taken to the LKH and her condition is stable.
