Horrible! A horrific accident occurred at an event in Pucking (Upper Austria) on Wednesday. A seven-year-old child fell for an unknown reason and was run over in the forearm by the rear tire of a tractor. The seriously injured child was flown to hospital.
Fishing association Pucking had invited people to a “fish festival” at the local swimming pond on May 1. The guests were treated to fish sticks, sausages, fish cakes, coffee and cake. As a special attraction, there were also tours with a vintage tractor.
It was a rush for the children present. They guided the trips, running next to and behind the tractor and trailer.
Failed emergency braking
When the tractor driver (59) started a new lap around 12.15 pm, a seven-year-old Bosnian who was running with him suddenly fell so badly that the driver could no longer get out. Although he applied emergency braking, he was unable to prevent the accident.
The rear tire of his Steyr 15 tractor rolled over the boy’s left forearm. The child screamed in pain. A paramedic who happened to be on the scene gave him first aid and called 911.
The seriously injured seven-year-old was flown to Kepler University Hospital by the Christophorus 10 rescue helicopter and underwent emergency surgery. His life is out of danger.
An alcohol test on the tractor driver showed 0.0 per mille. The police are investigating personal injury caused by negligence.
