On Tuesday afternoon, an 84-year-old in Vienna-Favoriten was taken to hospital with suspected smoke poisoning after a fire broke out in her apartment.
The professional fire brigade was alerted to the operation in Neilreichgasse around 1:10 p.m., said their spokesman Christian Feiler. When emergency services arrived, flames were coming from a window on the top floor of the house.
Five more residents released
The fire brigade extinguished the fire using a two-line breathing apparatus on the interior attack and using a turntable ladder on the exterior attack. At the same time, respiratory protection teams brought refugees out.
Cause still unclear
Five residents were transferred to the professional rescue service for urgent medical care. No further hospital admissions were required other than the owner of the fire apartment. The fire brigade was on site with seven vehicles and 33 emergency services. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
