Ski legend retires – “I brought Lindsey Vonn to Fuschl when she was 19”

He once led Günther Mader to success as a private coach, won numerous gold medals as an ÖSV speed coach and ended up at Red Bull in 2004, where he became a defining figure in the World Cup alongside stars such as Lindsey Vonn and Marco Odermatt. Now Robert Trenkwalder (76) is retiring after 48 years in the ski circus.

“These are moments you never forget.” Yes, Robert Trenkwalder reminisced during the ‘Krone’ interview. The 76-year-old has been an integral part of the World Ski Championships since 1976, but on May 1 it will be over and he will retire. “I’m only one step back, I’m not completely gone yet,” laughs the busy Innsbruck resident, who has been involved in numerous gold medals in various roles throughout his career.
